Rope, hooks, and hitch math

Running rope: broken wires, kinks, crushing, corrosion, diameter loss — retire it when it hits the criteria, not when it looks ‘still pretty good.’

Rotation-resistant rope hides core damage. Inspect it like the manufacturer says.

Sling angle: the flatter the sling, the more tension. 30° is not 60°.

Choker derates. Basket can rate higher if it is actually a basket. Hardware wants to be loaded in line.
